What drones do better

Where aerial delivery wins decisively.

Five specific areas where drone-based exterior maintenance is meaningfully better than the alternative — not marginally, decisively.

Reach.Building corners, soffits, parapets, ridge caps, and roof edges that lifts physically can't reach without elaborate articulating boom configurations. Drones treat the full envelope as one continuous surface.
Speed.Mobilization in under an hour. Most jobs that would take a lift-based crew 3–7 days complete in 1–2 shifts. The cleaning itself isn't faster — the access is.
Safety.The pilot stays on the ground. Zero workers at height means no fall-protection failures, no rope-access incidents, no aerial-lift bucket events. The number that matters most is your jobsite incident rate, and ours is structurally lower.
Disruption profile.One ground station. One operator. No fenced entrances, no lane closures, no scaffolding fields. From a tenant's perspective, drone work is often invisible.
Documentation.Aerial imagery captures the full building condition before and after — by default, on every job. Most lift-based contractors deliver this only on request, if at all.

What drones don't do

The honest section.

We're not dogmatic about the tool. There are jobs where drones are objectively the wrong choice, and we're transparent about which ones.

Heavy hardscape pressure washing.Open parking lots, sidewalks, and standard concrete walkways are best handled by ground crews with surface cleaners. We send a ground crew with the right equipment.
Interior work.Atrium glass, interior light wells, and other indoor cleaning tasks are not in scope for drone delivery.
Highly localized spot work.A single 6-foot smudge on a ground-floor storefront is a five-minute job for a person with a squeegee. Mobilizing a drone for that is poor economics.
Restricted airspace.A small percentage of buildings sit in airspace where flight authorization isn't available or practical. We assess this in the site survey before we quote.

Where ground crews win, we deploy ground crews. Where drones win, we deploy drones. The judgment call is part of what you're hiring us for.

Compliance is the moat

Why "we have a drone" isn't the same as "we're a drone services operator."

Anyone can buy a drone. The reason commercial property owners hire AES is not the equipment — it's the operational stack wrapped around it.

Our compliance stack — and why each piece matters.

FAA Part 107 — every operator. Federal Aviation Administration certified Remote Pilot. Required by federal law for commercial drone operation. Without it, every flight is a federal violation. We don't have unlicensed operators, period.
LAANC airspace authorization. Where buildings sit in controlled airspace, we file Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability requests through the FAA before mobilization.
$1M general liability + $1M aviation insurance. Aviation coverage is separate from standard contractor GL. Your property entity gets listed as additional insured before any flight.
OSHA awareness. Even with no workers at height, jobsite OSHA standards still apply for the ground crew. OSHA 10/30 is standard team training.
California chemical compliance. Soft-wash chemistry handled to California's stricter standards. Runoff containment, biodegradable formulations, capture and disposal where required.
Documentation as a default deliverable. Before/after imagery, condition notes, and recommendations after every job — not on request, by default.
